There are now a number of initiatives that give advice on how unnecessary stress at work can be dealt with, often through exercise regimes. For instance: Tai Chi Works is a supporter of The Welsh Assembly Government's Health Challenge Wales initiative.
All agree that physical activity is an important way to reduce stress levels. It uses up adrenalin and other hormones that the body produces under stress, relaxes the muscles and improves circulation. Exercise can also change the way you feel, raising self-esteem and reducing anxiety. Tai Chi is a gentle but very effective exercise system. Relaxation is a natural answer to stress. Controlled breathing exercises and learning how to release held tension both promote relaxation and are essential principles of Tai Chi training. Meditation is a useful way to refocus the mind. Tai Chi is often called 'moving meditation'.
